Veteran Shane Doan Traded

Long time Bruin and alternate captain Shane Doan has been traded after months of speculation about his future. He was acquired from the Dallas Stars in Season 4 and was an integral part of the Boston Bruins AHL cup championship winning team of Season 5. The Bruins organization and fans wish to thank a leader and passionate player who gave his all during his stay with the Bruins.

The club continued their youth movement by trading veteran winger Doan along with Boston's 3rd round pick to the Washington Capitals in exchange for wingers Kris Versteeg and Ben Eager. Trading Doan was one of the most difficult decisions the club has had to make this off-season. But we're confident this was the right move to do as we get a very interesting player in Versteeg who might not be ready to take on a leadership role just yet, but surely gives Bruins fans something to get excited about. At ten years younger than Doan, we feel Versteeg has yet to hit his prime and has every chance of improving and becoming an important part of the clubs success as soon as next season.

We're also glad to add physical winger Ben Eager to the roster as he's a character player who knows his role on a club and can chip in with some points as well. The Bruins were actually close to getting Eager a couple of seasons ago when Bruins legend Milan Hejduk was traded to Washington for a 1st round pick (which the Bruins picked John Carlson with).

Bruin of the Day - Kris Versteeg

FUTURE: A gifted winger who has the tools to go around his opponents, has a good shot and sets up his teammates well. Produces top six points, but has the potential to be a future first liner for the club.

STATUS: Grinder, physical winger

VALUE: 4th line/Spare forward

ACQUIRED: Trade (Season 9) from Washington with Kris Versteeg for Shane Doan and Bos' 3rd round pick (Marc-Andre Gragnani, selected by St. Louis)

FUTURE: Can frustrate opponents with his physical, high energy style of play and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. Can chip in with a goal every now and then too, but knows his role on the team.

Another Day, Another Deal

The Boston Bruins continued their trade frenzy as the club was able to acquire another missing piece. The team lacked a good, strong, all-round defenseman. And as a little bonus, size and grit up front is never wrong. The price was high though as the Bruins had to part with their 1st round pick as well as recently acquired Paul Stastny and d'man Matt Carle. However, the organization feels very comfortable with the fact we're getting two guys we've been targeting for a very long time.

We're proud to welcome David Backes and Ryan Suter as new Bruins who were acquired along with Toronto's 2nd round pick. We had targeted Backes last season when we came close to sending our 1st round pick the other way. He's a big, physical forward who can both play a shutdown game as well as score big goals for the club.

Ryan Suter has always been high on our priority list as we rank him as one of the very best defensemen in the league, and a bit underrated. He can log big minutes, has a good shot, passing game and shutdown qualities. He'll surely be used in all game situations and becomes the best defenseman our club has had in a very long time. Dealing our 1st round pick was a tough thing to do, but we're confident this was the right choice and feel pretty good about this deal, for the present as well as the future.

We're however sad to part ways with Paul Stastny who never had the chance to play in a Bruins uniform. He should now form a lethal one-two with Phil Kessel in Toronto so look out. The fact the Bruins already had good centers made it possibly to move a player like Stastny. We feel pretty confident Backes can fill the void and a bonus is that he also can play wing if/when needed. But Suter was key for us in this deal.

FUTURE: With his goal-scoring ability, physical playing style and leadership qualities David is everything a Bruin should be. A top six forward who can play in all situations and his work ethic is invaluable.

Bruins Acquire Rask, Fire Assistant GM

It was a turbulent day today as the Bruins completed a deal. But it turned out that the Bruins Assistant GM had made a mistake which had to be fixed before the deal could officially be processed. Such a mistake will not be tolerated and the Assistant GM was fired immediately after things had been cleared up. The mistake is said to have been made when the Assistant GM missed to include the correct terms under which the deal would be made.

Eventually everything was settled and the Bruins traded away goaltender Mathieu Garon along with the Bruins' 2nd round pick for goaltender Tuukka Rask. The deal means the Bruins have acquired a very talanted young goaltender that has the potential to be very special. The club has lacked a stellar goaltender and the organization felt it was time to change that. Rask has already shown that he can be the go-to-guy, but is most likely a couple of seasons away before he'll be the star goalkeeper he should be.

The club also introduced Doug Houda as the new Assistant GM after it was time for a promotion for the long time Bruin. In Doug Houda we have a loyal, well liked and competent guy who always will be an important part of the Bruins organization.

There are no known family ties between the GM and his new Assistant GM, but this move will surely be talked about around the league.
