Bruins Involved In 3-Player, 3-Pick Trade

After being able to keep things out of the rumour mill, the Bruins and Capitals were able to complete a three-player, three-pick deal. It had been high on the wish list of the Bruins organization to upgrade the goalkeeping situation for this season. With the team performing well at the quarter mark into the season, management felt it would give the team and it's fans a serious chance at success in the playoffs.

The deal saw the Bruins send veteran goalkeeper Scott Clemmensen, rookie forward Dwight King along with the 1st and 2nd round draft picks to the Washington Capitals. In return the Bruins received help in net in form of Brian Elliott and a 2nd round pick.

Clemmensen had been solid for the Bruins, making 12 starts (out of 21) posting a 2.24 GAA with a .906 Sv% and a 9-2-1 record (including 2 SO's). But by acquiring Elliott, the Bruins should get a very solid goaltending tandem of Elliott and Tuukka Rask. With Elliott being eligible for the playoffs, the deal made sense in an attempt to compete with the best in the league.

Brian Elliott met the press with mixed emotions as he had signed a long-term deal with the Capitals during the summer. But it was evident he was pleased to have joined a proud Bruins organization that has worked hard to once again bring success to Beantown. On the question if he was worried to come to a club where he would get competition for the starting job by Rask, he replied: "I'm looking forward to this opportunity, to work with Tuukka and compete on a daily basis. I'll do everything to show my worth to the team and will work hard to show that the club did the right thing to bring me here". He ended by saying: "I can't wait to put the B's uniform on!", which was met with a round of cheers and applause.
