Bruins Trade Montoya For D'man, Goalie

As the Bruins had three goalies for over half the season, Al Montoya became available as his numbers for the club were way below expectations. And with some solid goaltending by youngster Tuukka Rask and veteran Dwayne Roloson, club management felt it wasn't a very difficult decision to make when defensive d'man Greg Zanon became available. At the same time, the Minnesota Wild see Montoya as a useful piece in their hunt for the best possible position heading into the playoffs.

Zanon brings a solid defensive game to the Bruins back end. He's one of the leagues better shot blockers and should help the Bruins goalies down the road. He'll also be useful on the PK and can be paired with any d'man given he can play both LD and RD. He's not expected to contribute much offensively, but that's not the reason he was brought in.

Along with Zanon, the Bruins also got goalie Martin Biron who had to be part of the deal due to league regulations. However, Biron will only be able to play in four games for the Bruins having signed a short-term contract.
