In a surprise move, the Boston Bruins once again stepped into the trade market. The Bruins weren't really looking to add another top six defenseman, rather a 4th line forward. But when the Minnesota Wild had made it known that veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas was on the market, the Bruins moved in quickly to acquire the player.
Management felt that the club couldn't pass on the opportunity to strengthen their back end. It would've been difficult to have seen the player go to another team without making an offer.
The move saw the Bruins send useful (and younger) d'man Mark Fayne along with the Bruins' 3rd round pick the other way. Fayne was drafted by the club at last years entry draft and was a solid member of our club. But he didn't have a clear future with the Bruins and with the club looking to improve, it was evident that he was expendable.
The Bruins now have a much improved defense from last season. It's a combination of some of the younger players stepping into bigger roles as well as drafting and a couple of trades. The club is very happy with the way the defense has shaped up and feel there is enough of everything. Another deal is not out of the question though as we always look to improve.
