In a sudden turn of events, enforcer Colton Orr was put on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks. The current PIM leader in AHL (with 419 PIM in 68 games) became available and it probably caught the eye of a lot of the GM's around the league. Bruins management talked things over and decided it was time to bring in the first enforcer since the departure of Shawn Thornton (to the Chicago Blackhawks in waiver draft) and George Parros (to free agency, picked up by the St. Louis Blues).
The move looked to be just a minor deal at first, but the Bruins 'do' actually plan on dressing Colton Orr during the last couple of games of the regular season. Exactly how many games or how much playing time he'll get is still uncertain. But sources say there's a good reason (except for the entertainment value he brings) why he was brought in.
The Bruins have decided to give Colton Orr jersey #27, the same number Bruin great Bobby Orr first wore when he broke into the league (before #4). This rare move has already created a lot of buzz around the fan base who are said to do everything they can to get a hold of a #27 "Orr" Bruins jersey in time for the Bruins' next home game. This shrewd move is also said to cover travel costs for the team for the entire season. Thank you, Mr. Orr!
