Bruins Swap D'Men, Picks

Even though the Bruins had been having a satisfying season through 33 games, there was always room for improvement. The club had made it known that young, versatile d'man John Carlson was available for the right deal. The Bruins were looking to acquire a replacement d'man who was sound in his own zone, as well as a 1st round rookie pick (if possible). After some time negotiating with the GM of the Dallas Stars, as well as a couple of other GM's, a deal could finally be agreed on. The Bruins sent John Carlson with Washington's 2nd round pick to the Dallas Stars for Dennis Seidenberg and Dallas' 1st round pick.

The deal came just a day after John Carlson scored 2 goals for the Bruins in a 4-0 win over the Washington Capitals. Obviously he knew he was being showcased and put on a good show. Management had been happy with Carlson's contribution this season, but the fact remained that the Bruins had felt very strongly about moving him for some time.

The Bruins are said to be delighted to have been able to upgrade their draft pick in what looks to be a strong draft year. There are several players the Bruins have been scouting and this deal wouldn't have been made without a solid pick coming back as part of the deal. But the addition of Dennis Seidenberg was as important as he fits in perfectly with the rest of the team and looks to help the team build on the early season success. Seidenberg had been on the Bruins' radar for some time and was close to joining the Bruins a season ago. There's no doubt he'll be well liked by fans, players and coaches.
