Bruins Play Big in Fresh Start

In their first game after the blockbuster trade that saw Zach Parise join the Bruins, it was all smiles during the post-game interviews. The Bruins looked like a totally different team when they thrashed the talented Islanders 6-0. And it was a dominant performance where the Bruins outshot their opponents 41-19, including 34-8 (!) after 2 periods.

After less than five minutes #9 Zach Parise introduced himself to his new hometown fans when he finished off a great passing play with Jaroslav Spacek and Justin Williams getting the assists. The fans were off their feet and stayed there for most of the game. Captain and first star Rick Nash, obviously extra motivated with the new playmates, recorded a hat-trick with a goal in each period. Eric Nystrom notched his first goal of the campaign, while rookie Logan Couture added another to make it the perfect night for the Bruins. Adding to that a shutout for second star Mathieu Garon who faced 19 shots, 11 in the 3rd, and we couldn't ask for more.

"Wow, what a tremendous atmosphere and what a feeling to be a Bruin. We knew we were facing a good team with a winning record, but you could just feel the energy before the game and we were able to carry that into the game. To get that first goal out of the way was great, but even more important was to get the win. And what can you say about Nasher ? It's a treat to play with him and Bergy. We sure had a lot of fun out there tonight", said third star Parise.

Garon, who looks to earn the starting job in Boston, made some important saves early in the first period on a 3-on-4 with good chances by Dustin Penner and Jarome Iginla. Even Alex Ovechkin was clearly frustrated and broke two sticks during the game after Garon made it look easy. "The guys did a tremendous job in front of me tonight and it was an inspirational win for sure. We know it's just one game so we got to work just as hard if we want to turn things around. We sure are on the right track", said Garon.

Bruin of the Day - Matt Carle

FUTURE: Has improved his defensive abilities and should help our team going forward. Still young and has the potential of adding a more physical aspect to his game.

REPORT: Bruins Involved in Seven Player Deal

The Bruins have been working the phones the last couple of weeks looking to upgrade their roster. In a six player deal Monday, the Bruins settled on a deal with Phoenix GM Mike Jordan after several days of negotiations. Young forwards Jakub Voracek and Rostislav Olesz along with veteran goalie Chris Mason and the Bruins 1st round rookie pick were sent to the desert in return for star winger Zach Parise, forward Torrey Mitchell, solid defenseman Matt Carle and goalie Mathieu Garon along with Phoenix' 3rd round rookie pick.

The main obstacle of the deal was the 1st round pick the Bruins had to give up which could turn out to be a franchise player. But management is very high on new arrival #9 Zach Parise who should form a great one-two with team Captan Rick Nash. "We now feel we have two strong lines that can contribute on daily basis and not only have one line for other teams to shut down. Whenever you get the opportunity to acquire a star and model professional like Zach you got to take it, even if it means giving up a potential top five pick", said assistant general manager Bobby Orr.

Adding solid defenseman Matt Carle was also important for the club as he looks to be a top 4 d'man who can be very useful. He's got a solid allround game and will help the Bruins stabilize the back end. In the deal the Bruins also got Torrey Mitchell who should be a useful piece on a checking line with his speed and energy. And goalie Mathieu Garon will get a chance to earn a starting job which he's looking forward to - "It's really a great opportunity for me and something of a dream come true to play for an original six team. The black-and-gold will sure look good on me and I'm excited to get a fresh start with this proud organization", said Garon.

The Bruins are of course sad to see one of their top prospects Jakub Voracek depart and some feel they might have given up too soon on the talented Czech winger. But it all came down to one important thing and that was what the club was able to get in return. Parise is a proven goalscorer, leader and competitor that every team would love to have.

Chris Mason has done incredible things for the club, being part of three championships, but it was time for a change and he's got no hard feelings about it - "You know, I've had my best years playing for the Bruins and they've always treated me with great respect and it's just part of business. I owe them everything and want to thank them for all the memories and support", said Mason.

On a final note Bruins team Captain Rick Nash, talking to reporters at team practice Monday along with Alternate Captains Patrice Bergeron and Shane Doan, said "I think I speak for all players and fans when I say we feel really excited about getting a guy like Zach Parise to join our group and you can already see the inspiration this has given the guys. We're looking forward to our next game at home to the Islanders and we're all ready to go".

Bruins Update on Trades and Fights

Bruins management has been quite busy the last couple of days as there's been trade talks with a couple of GM's. Nothing has materialized into a trade yet, but interest is there. Trade talks have so far mainly been with other teams that are in a similar position as the Bruins. Playoff teams and contenders seem to be happy with what they see from their teams at the moment. But that should change as we get closer to the trade deadline when teams look to bolster their rosters.

Mystery player...

There's speculation that the players involved in the different trade talks involve Jakub Voracek, Rostislav Olesz, Jaroslav Spacek, Mike Commodore and Joe Corvo. The Bruins have also been offered a player of interest for the B's 1st round pick. Though tempting, management felt that it wouldn't be wise to part with a potential top 5 pick at the moment.

On a different note the club hasn't had much success in the win column lately, but George Parros and Shawn Thornton have at least kept the fans happy in one departement - fighting. As expected, Parros has led the way with several entertaining bouts.

In a recent game he had three fights vs Los Angeles when he fought Mike Brown, Maxim Lapierre and former teammate Owen Nolan. He's currently ranked 7th in the fight rankings, but that was before his three-fight-game. Probably inspired by the publication of the fighter rankings earlier in the week, Parros looks to climb towards the top of the list in time for the release of the next fighter ranking. Hey, if you can't win the Cup, at least entertain your fans...
